Sturgeon Valley Pork uses no animal by-products or hormones. Farms have bio-security protocols in place, safe setbacks from other farms, and Canadian Quality Assurance protocol monitoring.
DNA Traceback to Ensure Food Safety
The DNA TraceBack system helps us establish a credible link from our farms through our processing facility to the consumer. From our point of view, being able to offer foolproof traceability is a key to building trust with the consumer.
Under the system, DNA samples are taken from Sturgeon Valley hogs at the processing plant and then again at the retail store. Samples are sent to IdentiGEN’s laboratory, where their unique DNA identifiers are used to verify product origin.
